What is a flow meter?

A flow meter is an instrument used to measure the flow of a fluid in a pipe or an open channel.Flow meters are widely used in industrial production, environmental protection, transportation and other industries.

Classification of flow meters

Flow meters are generally divided into: differential pressure flowmeter, rotor flowmeter, throttling flowmeter, slit flowmeter, volumetric flowmeter, electromagnetic flowmeter, ultrasonic flowmeter and so on.Classified by medium: liquid flowmeter and gas flowmeter.

The working principle of the flow meter

1, Principle: In general, the flow meter is a precision measuring instrument that uses the principle of fluid physics to measure flow. It can measure the flow of the medium, including the flow measurement of pipelines and pipe networks, as well as the flow measurement of liquids and gases. In general, the flow meter is based on the physical laws of the fluid, using the form of fluid movement to measure the fluid flow in the pipeline or open channel.

2, Measurement principle: The traditional flow meter generally measures the flow by calculating the relationship between flow and pressure. It can be roughly divided into volume measuring instruments and pressure measuring instruments.

3, Working principle: Simple flow meters generally use double medium volume accuracy measurement technology, the principle is that when the fluid through the volume measurement chamber, there will be volume changes or gas pressure changes, and then the change value and flow value are converted with the corresponding relationship.

4, Connection: flowmeter installation, there are generally two types of connection:

Direct installation: the measuring part of the flowmeter into the pipeline to be measured, and directly measure the flow in the pipeline.

Additional installation type: The measuring part of the flowmeter is placed at the node of the pipeline, and the flow rate in the pipeline is converted by reverse calculation and measurement results.

5, Sensor: The general flow meter will have a built-in sensor, it can detect the flow rate, temperature and pressure and other parameters according to the change of fluid characteristics, and then digital conversion, measurement of flow.

6, Display: The flow meter generally has a display function, the common display forms are liquid crystal display, LED display, scrolling code display and other forms, according to the use can choose the corresponding display.

7, Calculation and processing: the flow meter needs to detect a variety of parameters at the same time, so it must use data processing technology, generally using microprocessor technology and hardware processing to calculate the flow, temperature, pressure and other parameters, and through the trigger circuit to quantitative feedback these data to the display screen for display.
